Open and breitensport class participation

Diagram of classes

We would like the open class to be smaller and at a higher level. Therefore we have decided that:

  • German D-class dancers should participate in the breitensport class. C-class dancers must start in the open class. If they are a C-class dancer for only one discipline, they can choose to start the other discipline in the breitensport class. B-class dancers have to start in the open class for both disciplines, regardless of which discipline they are B-class for.
  • Dutch 'nieuwelingen' in ballroom and C-class dancers in Latin should participate in the breitensport class. D-class dancers in ballroom and B-class dancers in Latin should dance in the open class for this discipline and can choose for the other discipline. All higher Dutch levels should dance open class in both disciplines.
  • Dancers who have won the master class (3rd place or higher) twice within two years (during the 38th, 39th and 40th ETDS) are not allowed to start in the breitensport class, and should start in the open class. We decided that this regular rule will NOT be applied, since we have changed the levels.
  • Dancers are not allowed to dance a specific discipline (Latin or ballroom) in both the open and the breitensport class.
  • Formation or demonstration dancers might have a separate (second) qualification for formation or demonstration dancing. The separate level of the formation dancing is not considered: only the individual level of regular tournaments is considered. If this results in awkward classes for certain persons, please contact us and we will consider the person individually.

You can only dance in the open class if you meet the requirements. Exceptions will only be allowed with good motivation.

If you are in doubt about the rules, please contact us.
